Genesis Magma Racing has completed the final testing phase of its GMR-001 hypercar for 2025 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Over three days, two cars ran at near-race pace with around 75 team members on hand, a clear sign the program is operating at full intensity.

The hypercar is powered by a 3.2-liter twin-turbo V8 designed and hand-assembled by Hyundai Motorsport. One power unit covered more than 8,000 km while meeting targets for power, efficiency, and reliability. The team said endurance emerged as the key outcome of the test plan ahead of its FIA WEC debut—an emphasis that tends to pay off when races are decided over long distances.

Across the sessions, engineers and the 2026 driver group worked on setup, software, and new aerodynamics, and evaluated updated tires. The GMR-001 carrying number 17 will be driven by Andre Lotterer, Pipo Derani, and Mathis Jober, while the second crew pairs Mathieu Jaminet with Dani Juncadella. With the lineups in place, attention naturally shifts to extracting consistent performance from the package.

Genesis sees the GMR-001 as a significant step in its motorsport ambitions. The car’s arrival on track coincides with rising interest in the 2026 crop of sports cars, where reliability and technology carry decisive weight—a timely alignment for a project built around those priorities.
