Volkswagen ID. Polo: affordable EV specs, range and 2026 launch
Discover the new Volkswagen ID. Polo: compact EV with 37–52 kWh batteries, up to 450 km WLTP, 90–130 kW charging and price from €25,000. On sale April 2026.
Volkswagen has revealed the technical specifications of the new ID. Polo, a compact electric car for Europe that is intended to become one of the brand’s most affordable EVs. Sales are slated to begin in late April 2026, with a starting price around €25,000. A full interior reveal is expected in January, and the final design details will be disclosed closer to the debut.
According to the Tarantas News website, the range is built around a new AP290 front electric motor, so all versions will be front-wheel drive, including the future ID. Polo GTI planned for 2027. The entry models use an LFP battery with a usable capacity of 37 kWh and a 114 hp motor; the same pack will also be offered with a stronger 181 hp tune. Both LFP versions are rated for up to 300 km on the WLTP cycle. Charging supports up to 11 kW AC and up to 90 kW DC, with a 10–80% top-up taking about 27 minutes. That front-drive-only strategy signals a pragmatic focus on efficiency and cost.
Longer-range and more potent variants get a 52 kWh NMC battery: 208 hp for mid-spec cars and 222 hp for the GTI, with a maximum range of up to 450 km WLTP. DC fast charging rises to 130 kW, cutting the 10–80% window to roughly 23 minutes, while AC stays at 11 kW. On paper, these figures should comfortably cover daily use and leave room for weekend trips.
PowerCo packs use a cell-to-pack layout and are mounted in the floor on the MEB+ platform. In terms of size, the ID. Polo is close to the regular Polo and will be sold alongside it. The familiar footprint ought to ease the transition for buyers considering their first EV.
