BMW recalls select 2026 X5, X5 Hybrid, X6 and X7 over passenger airbag issue

BMW launches a recall for 25 2026-model X5, X5 Hybrid, X6 and X7 due to an instrument panel defect that may affect the front passenger airbag. Not yet sold.

BMW has launched a recall covering select 2026 model-year vehicles, including the BMW X5, its hybrid variant, the BMW X6, and the BMW X7. In total, 25 vehicles from these current-generation lines fall under the action.

The move follows the discovery of a manufacturing defect in the instrument panel that may compromise the proper operation of the front passenger airbag. Because of this flaw, the airbag could deploy incorrectly, creating a potential hazard for passengers in a crash. Airbag performance leaves no room for compromise, so even a limited batch merits swift attention.

BMW notes that the affected vehicles have not yet been sold to customers, so the company will not issue owner notification letters. Addressing the issue before deliveries helps keep any disruption for future owners to a minimum.
