Toyota Q3 2025 results: sales, production and exports rise on hybrid demand
Toyota’s Q3 2025 report shows rising sales, production and exports, driven by hybrid demand in North America, China; output nears 2022 levels amid BEV rollout
Toyota Motor Group is wrapping up the third quarter of 2025 on solid footing, with sales, production, and exports rising in tandem. For April–September 2025, group sales reached 5.64 million vehicles (+5% year over year), while output climbed to 5.59 million (+5.7%). 32CARS.RU analyzed the automaker’s report.
The recovery is being driven primarily by North America and China, where appetite for hybrids and the new Grand Highlander and TX crossovers has brought results back to 2022 levels. Toyota (including Lexus) sold 5.27 million vehicles (+4.7%), with 4.55 million shipped for export.
Exports from Japan
After two years of declines, Toyota’s exports from Japan are firmly back in growth mode. From January to September 2025, 1.001 million vehicles were sent abroad (+9% y/y), and September alone saw a sharp 27.9% jump to 194,600 units. Group-wide exports (including Hino and Daihatsu) reached 1.023 million (+8.2%), marking the first annual increase in two years.
The upswing was supported by North America, China, and India, where logistics chains are recovering and demand for hybrids remains robust. In the wake of 2023’s production shortfall, Japanese plants lifted utilization by 6–7%.
Hino moved the other way, trimming exports amid weaker demand for commercial trucks—down 16.5% over nine months. Daihatsu does not export directly, focusing instead on the domestic market and localized manufacturing in Asia.
Production
The group increased output to 5.59 million units (+5.7%), with overseas plants contributing 3.59 million (+5.5%) and Japanese sites producing 2.0 million (+6.1%). In September, global production hit 1.036 million vehicles—the ninth straight month of growth.
Toyota (including Lexus) set a September record at 918,000 vehicles built (+11.1%), and outside Japan output rose to 616,500 (+7.2%). The pattern points to a stronger emphasis on export-oriented facilities.
Sales and outlook
From April to September, sales outside Japan rose 5.0% (4.65 million vehicles), while the home market held steady at 988,000 (+5.3%). North America advanced 10.5%, China 5.5%, and India 14.2%. Europe maintained momentum (+3.7%) despite softer demand in France and Italy.
Experts at 32CARS expect group sales to surpass 8.3 million vehicles by year-end, with production potentially reaching 8.34 million—returning to levels last seen in 2022. The bulk of the progress should come from export markets, where Toyota is strengthening its position by expanding its hybrid lineup and launching new bZ-series BEV models.
