Renault has announced a key production milestone: 100,000 examples of the all-electric Renault 5 E-Tech Electric have been built at the Douai plant after fifteen months of production. Series output started in the summer of 2024, and the milestone car was a Techno version fitted with a 52-kWh battery. The pace suggests the reborn 5 is quickly finding its place among compact EVs.

Building the Renault 5 accounts for roughly two-thirds of the facility’s workload. The same line also assembles the Nissan Micra, Alpine A290, Renault Megane, Scenic and Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, though those vehicles are not included in the Renault 5’s tally. The mixed line underscores the site’s flexibility, yet the 5 clearly takes center stage in day-to-day operations.

Even with a strong start, the latest Renault 5 has a long road before it can rival its predecessors: the original R5 reached 5.27 million units, while the Supercinq hit 3.43 million. Interest in the new model continues to build, placing it firmly in view as the market leans harder into fresh metal and electrification. Early momentum may prove decisive for how far this nameplate can go in its second life.
