2026 Mazda CX-5 debuts EEA+ architecture, Google integration and OTA updates
Explore the 2026 Mazda CX-5 with new EEA+ architecture, deep Google integration, OTA updates, enhanced driver assistance, and 2.5 MHEV options from €30,000.
Mazda is accelerating its digital transformation: just four months after sales began, the new CX-5 has already received a major update. For the 2026 model year, it becomes the first Mazda to adopt the EEA+ architecture—a unified electrical and electronic backbone that connects all control units, networks, and software layers. This foundation opens the door to fully software-defined cars with regular over-the-air updates and more capable driver assistance features.
The headline change is deep Google integration. The 12.9- or 15.6-inch central display now runs Google Maps, Assistant, and Google Play. The interface has been redesigned to reduce distraction: key controls are pinned at the top, while physical buttons remain for essential functions. Voice commands understand natural speech, and Mazda indicates a switch to Google Gemini is planned later, though support for some languages remains uncertain. After a trial period, these services will move to a paid subscription. The decision to keep tactile controls where they matter most feels prudent, and the software-first direction finally aligns the CX-5 with the way drivers actually use their cars today.
EEA+ also enhances the operation of safety systems, the digital instrument cluster, and telemetry. In effect, the CX-5 becomes a living platform whose capabilities can evolve through updates—exactly the kind of long-term flexibility this segment has been missing.
The powertrain lineup changes less dramatically: two 2.5 MHEV versions rated at 141 hp, paired with either a manual or a six-speed automatic, and offered with FWD or AWD. Pricing starts a little above €30,000.
