What to expect from Volvo’s 2026 lineup: EX60 and new XC70
Preview Volvo’s 2026 lineup: the EX60 electric SUV on SPA3 with adaptive seat belts and a minimalist tech cabin, plus next-gen XC70 with range-extender drive.
Volvo is gearing up for a packed 2026: following the debuts of the ES90 and EX30 Cross Country, January will bring the premiere of the EX60, a new mid-size electric SUV. Positioned between the EX30 and the flagship EX90, it rounds out the brand’s electric crossover lineup. Early teasers suggest the EX60 will stick to Volvo’s signature vertical lighting and clean, upright proportions rather than chasing coupe-style silhouettes. Expect a minimalist cabin true to the brand, with a stronger tech focus. That restrained design approach feels like a confident move in a segment often driven by styling fads.
The SUV rides on the SPA3 platform and shares its electronics and software with other Volvo models. The battery uses a cell-to-body layout, and the headline safety innovation is a set of multi-adaptive seat belts that adjust to the occupant and the type of impact. Volvo aims to keep pricing in line with the current XC60 plug-in, which would neatly position the EX60 within the range and lower the barrier for loyal buyers considering a switch to full electric.
The second big debut is the next-generation XC70. Once a wagon, it has evolved into a 4.81-meter electric SUV, already on sale in China and potentially headed to Europe in 2026. Its standout feature is a powertrain focused on extended autonomy: up to 200 km on electric drive and up to 1,200 km when a gasoline generator is used. The shift in format looks pragmatic, aligning with how buyers actually use family SUVs, while the long-distance capability addresses range anxiety without overpromising.
