Ferrari Amalfi Spider: a $300,000 price puts a $33,000 tag on the folding roof alone

A folding roof on the Ferrari Amalfi Spider could cost around $33,000. The coupe starts at $266,810 in the US, while trade outlets peg the convertible at roughly $300,000. That roughly 12% premium buys no extra power and no quicker acceleration — Ferrari hasn’t published official Spider pricing yet.

The Amalfi Spider uses the same twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8, good for 640 hp and 760 Nm. An eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox sends power to the rear wheels. 0-100 km/h takes 3.3 seconds, and top speed reaches 320 km/h — identical to the coupe. The Spider needs 9.4 seconds to hit 200 km/h, against 9.0 seconds for the closed version.

The five-layer fabric roof mechanism adds about 86 kg to the dry weight, bringing it to 1,556 kg. The top folds in 13.5 seconds and can be operated at speeds up to 60 km/h. Ferrari reinforced the body, so reviewers found no noticeable loss of rigidity or handling.

Something else turned out to be more debatable. During a European test, Road & Track called the V8’s open-top sound too restrained because of noise regulations: airflow drowned out the exhaust, while the engine was easier to hear with the roof up. That’s a subjective take on one car, but for a Ferrari convertible, sound is a big part of the promised emotion.

32CARS.RU reported on the model’s debut earlier. The Amalfi Spider keeps the coupe’s pace and adds open-air driving, but the roughly $33,000 premium buys the roof above all — and the payoff you’d expect most from it may depend on the market and how each car is specced.
