Facelifted Mercedes-Benz C-Class: Bold New Grille, but the Cabin May Stay the Same

A Chinese prototype of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class W206 has surfaced with a much bigger grille and new star-pattern lighting, but the cabin looks unchanged.

A Chinese prototype of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class W206 has been caught with such a large grille that calling this update merely cosmetic feels like an understatement. Yet behind the bold front end, there’s no sign of an equally big technical leap: judging by other test cars, the cabin keeps its 12.3-inch and 11.9-inch screens.

Photos of the long-wheelbase sedan were published by Autohome on August 5, 2026. The plug-in hybrid shows a charging flap, a grille that spans nearly the full height of the front end, headlights with three-beam elements, and taillights featuring a star pattern.

Body proportions look largely unchanged. There are no separate interior shots in this new batch of images, but prototypes spotted earlier retained the standalone 12.3-inch instrument cluster and the vertical 11.9-inch MBUX display. Against that backdrop, BMW is already officially rolling out its Panoramic iDrive system across new models, which makes an electronics update more important for the C-Class than the number of stars in its lights.

Mercedes-Benz hasn’t disclosed technical specifications. The retention of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, plug-in hybrids, and the arrival of a six-cylinder C 53 remain preliminary at this stage. 32CARS.RU previously reported on the disappearance of the configurator for the current W/S206 and a transition period relying on in-stock vehicles.

The current C-Class is already well understood mechanically, while the facelift looks noticeably fresher on the outside, though its functional gains remain unconfirmed. Ahead of the official reveal, the biggest unknown isn’t the size of the grille, but how much has changed underneath it.
