Ford Ranger Holly Green: the hybrid comes in cheaper than the V6 diesel

The special-edition Ford Ranger Holly Green puts buyers in front of an unusual choice. The plug-in hybrid costs €66,378.20 in Germany, while the diesel V6 runs €69,948.20. The PHEV is €3,570 cheaper and produces 41 more horsepower, but its maximum payload drops from one tonne to 0.9 tonnes.

The Holly Green is based on the Ranger Wildtrak. For the distinctive green paint with black door handles, wheel arch extensions, window deflectors and hood and tailgate protectors, Ford charges the same premium regardless of engine — €2,368.10. The Wildtrak PHEV itself costs €64,010.10, the diesel version €67,580.10.

The hybrid pairs a 2.3-liter EcoBoost with a 75 kW electric motor. Combined output reaches 281 hp and 697 Nm, with an electric-only range of 42 km on the WLTP cycle. The Pro Power Onboard system can also feed up to 6.9 kW to external equipment through three outlets. The diesel Ranger runs a 3.0-liter V6 EcoBlue rated at 240 hp; both versions get a ten-speed automatic and four-wheel drive.

According to 32CARS.RU, the hybrid BYD Shark is preparing to enter the European market as a direct rival to the Ranger. Against that backdrop, the Holly Green gives Ford more visibility without changing the underlying Wildtrak hardware.

With equal equipment, the PHEV looks like the stronger buy on price, power and the ability to run tools off the truck. The diesel justifies the extra €3,570 only where a full tonne of payload matters more than staying tied to regular charging.
