Leapmotor B03: the compact hatchback aiming to fix the brand's pricing puzzle
Leapmotor is bringing the B03 compact hatchback to Europe, sitting between the T03 city car and the larger B05, with a Chinese-market range of up to 510 km WLTC.
Leapmotor is preparing the compact hatchback B03 for Europe, known in China as the A05. At around 4.2 metres long, the model will slot between the city-sized T03 and the larger B05. The Chinese version claims up to 510 km on the WLTC cycle, but European powertrains, pricing and WLTP range remain unconfirmed.
The related crossover B03X is already open for order from €24,900. The base version pairs a 39.8 kWh battery with a 130 kW motor and a WLTP range of 292 km. The 53 kWh version develops 145 kW and reaches up to 382 km.
The B03X’s main problem is its neighbour, the larger B05. The latter’s European starting price is €26,900 — just €2,000 more. For that, the base B05 offers 160 kW, rear-wheel drive, a 56.2 kWh battery and up to 401 km WLTP, 109 km more than the entry-level B03X.
Both EVs support fast charging from 30 to 80% in roughly 16–17 minutes. Yet the B03X answers with a higher seating position and a compact body, while the B05 counters with more power, more range and a multi-link rear suspension.
32CARS previously covered the expansion of Leapmotor’s European line-up and the brand’s plans to boost sales through the B10, B05 and B03X. It’s the B03 that’s meant to restore some pricing logic to the range. If the hatchback ends up only slightly cheaper than €24,900, buyers will once again have to choose between minimal savings and a bigger car with better numbers.
