Lexus LBX: entry-level trim renamed and priced €2,000 lower

Lexus has renamed the base LBX trim to Preference Edition and cut its European price to €35,995, narrowing the gap to the related Toyota Yaris Cross to just €1,000.

The Lexus LBX has become €2,000 cheaper without any change to its standard equipment. The entry-level trim has been renamed Preference Edition, and its European price has dropped from €37,995 to €35,995 — a 5.3% cut from the previous list price.

The main consequence is that the premium markup over the related Toyota Yaris Cross has nearly disappeared. The comparable Hybrid 130 version with 130 hp costs €34,995. Buyers now only pay €1,000 extra for a Lexus badge, down from €3,000 before.

The LBX is powered by a hybrid system built around a 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine. The setup produces 136 hp, accelerates the crossover to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds, and consumes from 4.5 l/100 km under WLTP. The styling, engineering, and equipment of the Preference Edition remain unchanged after the price cut.

The other trims — Elegant, Emotion, Relax, 35th Edition and Cool — keep their previous prices. At the same time, the Business Line trim aimed at corporate customers, previously priced from €39,695, has been dropped from the range.

The price cut looks like an attempt to fix weak demand. The €1,000 difference makes the Lexus noticeably more attractive, but it also strips away its main excuse for low sales — a starting price that was simply too high.
