Volkswagen Atlas recall: 57,851 SUVs to get a free camera software fix
NHTSA campaign 26V473 covers 2024–2026 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport: a rare voltage drop can leave the screen blank in reverse. Dealers will install software 0324 for free; owner letters go out September 18, 2026.
The United States is recalling 57,851 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs from the 2024–2026 model years: after shifting into reverse, the driver may be left without a rearview camera image. If that happens, the right move is to stop the maneuver, check the surroundings with the mirrors and book a service visit — not to keep going on parking sensors alone. According to 32CARS.RU, the NHTSA campaign is number 26V473, while Volkswagen’s internal code is 91TV.
The recall covers 38,646 regular Atlas models built between December 21, 2022 and December 16, 2025, and 19,205 Atlas Cross Sport units produced from June 16, 2023 to December 16, 2025. Volkswagen estimates that only about 1% of the vehicles actually show the defect, but the entire batch shares one thing — a specific software version of the camera control unit.
The cause is described as a rare event in the low-voltage electrical system. Under a combination of certain conditions, a voltage drop can disrupt the image feed from the cameras, including the rear one. Volkswagen has not yet pinned down a single systemic reason for these drops, though it points to possible effects of cold weather and other external factors. The main symptom is a blank screen after the selector is moved to R.
The first complaints, mostly involving the surround-view cameras, appeared in early 2024. After the winter of 2025–2026 the number of claims grew noticeably, and by June 2026 Volkswagen had counted 571 potentially related reports. At the same time, the company is not aware of any crashes, fires, injuries or deaths linked to the defect.
No camera or screen replacement will be needed. Dealers will install software version 0324 free of charge, replacing the previous 0314 with a build that is more resistant to voltage drops. The VINs are already searchable in the NHTSA database, and owner notification letters are due to go out on September 18, 2026.
