Android Auto 17.4 Is Here: Widgets and YouTube Still Aren't Included

Android Auto 17.4 is rolling out, but widgets and YouTube support are still on the way. Here's what build 17.4.6630 actually changes for drivers.

Android Auto 17.4 is already reaching phones, but drivers who install it may not notice any difference. Autoevolution lists the full build number as 17.4.6630, while Google itself hasn't published a detailed changelog. The app's Google Play listing confirms another update dated July 25, 2026, but doesn't reveal the version number or what actually changed.

That means widgets, YouTube, and the other features drivers are waiting for aren't part of Android Auto 17.4 yet — Google is preparing them for a separate rollout later in 2026. Widgets are meant to slot into the redesigned Android Auto interface, but no launch date has been announced.

Video playback will also come with a strict limit: the picture will only be available while the car is stationary. Google says the feature will start appearing on compatible vehicles before the end of the year and will require a phone running Android 17 or newer. In other words, updating the app to version 17.4 alone won't unlock YouTube on an older phone or an incompatible head unit.

Version 17.4 likely includes internal changes, interface groundwork, and stability fixes, but their exact purpose can't be confirmed from what's been published.

Because the rollout happens in stages, the update can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks to arrive. The safer route is to open Google Play, head to the app management section, and check whether an “Update” button shows up. Google recommends installing current versions through the Play Store itself — either manually or with auto-update turned on.

Installing an APK from a third-party site gets you the update faster, but it adds a risk: you could end up with a modified file or a build that doesn't match your phone. There's not much reason to rush right now — no confirmed user-facing features have been announced for Android Auto 17.4. If your system is already running smoothly, it's smarter to wait for the official rollout through Google Play.
