Chevrolet Sonic: the new crossover is only slightly cheaper than the bigger Tracker
The reborn Chevrolet Sonic crossover starts at 87.99 million pesos, just 3.81 million below the Tracker — and the sportier RS trim actually costs more.
The new Chevrolet Sonic turned out to be just 3.81 million Colombian pesos cheaper than the base Tracker. The Premier trim is priced at 87.99 million pesos, while the sportier-looking RS costs 92.99 million. Meanwhile, the Tracker’s starting price on the local market is 91.8 million pesos, so the top Sonic trim actually ends up pricier than the larger model.
Sonic is no longer a compact sedan or hatchback. The name has moved to a city crossover with a coupe-like roofline, developed by GM’s South American division and built in Gravataí, Brazil. Within the Chevrolet lineup, it slots between the Onix family and the Tracker.
Both Colombian trims get a three-cylinder 1.0-liter turbo engine. It produces 116 hp and 160 Nm, paired only with a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. Peak torque arrives at low revs, which matters more for city acceleration than raw power — though all-wheel drive isn’t offered on the Sonic.
Standard equipment includes six airbags, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assist. The RS adds front parking sensors and extra maneuvering aids. Both get 17-inch wheels, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11-inch infotainment screen. Trunk volume comes in at 392 liters.
Buyers looking at the Premier trim should weigh not just the price but also cabin space against the Tracker. The RS is mostly chosen for its styling and extra electronic aids, yet its price already overlaps with the base Tracker. That makes the top trim a less obvious pick: the bigger car can be the better deal if rear-seat room and versatility matter more than maximum equipment.
The Sonic also comes with OnStar, built-in Wi-Fi and access to basic connected services for eight years. Before buying, it’s worth checking which features stay free after that period and how much extending the premium plans will cost.
