BMW iX3 charged for 15 minutes and covered 238 km at a steady 120 km/h
An independent Out of Spec Roaming run took the iX3 50 xDrive from 10% to 65% in a quarter of an hour, then held a steady 120 km/h until the battery was back at 10%. The result: 148 miles, or 238 km.
Fifteen minutes at a high-power charger gave the BMW iX3 50 xDrive 238 km (148 miles) of motorway range. In an independent test by the Out of Spec Roaming channel, the state of charge climbed from 10% to 65%, after which the crossover held a steady 120 km/h until it was back down to the original 10%. That is noticeably less than the official 372 km in ten minutes that BMW quotes on the WLTP cycle.
Peak power during the session hit 407 kW and stayed above 400 kW until roughly 20% state of charge, then tapered off: 360 kW at 30%, 250 kW at 40% and 200 kW at the halfway mark. The fifteen-minute average worked out at 257 kW, while consumption on the route sat at around 24.2 kWh per 100 km. On a long drive, the shape of the charging curve counts for more than a brief peak.
Comparing 238 and 372 km head-on does not work. BMW quotes the added range under WLTP in optimal conditions, whereas the independent run reflects a constant 120 km/h on the motorway. Officially, the 108.7 kWh usable battery goes from 10% to 80% in 21 minutes, and maximum range reaches 805 km on the WLTP cycle.
The gap between methodologies shows up in another test as well. 32CARS.RU reported earlier that the BMW iX3 covered 781 km in a mixed real-world run. On the motorway after a brief stop the benchmark is different — roughly 238 km for 15 minutes of charging. For planning a long journey, that number is more useful than the spec-sheet maximum.
