Lotus Emeya 900: production EV beats modified Tesla’s Sepang lap by over 7 seconds

A gap of 7.473 seconds separates the Lotus Emeya R+ from the previous publicly known EV lap time at Sepang Circuit. Driver Daniel Lu completed the 5.543 km lap in 2:20.317, reaching a top speed of 248.8 km/h. The R+ variant is now called Emeya 900.

Lotus calls the result a new benchmark for electric vehicles, though the claim needs some context. The previous mark of 2:27.790 was set by a modified Tesla Model 3 Performance, while the Emeya is described as a standard production car. This isn’t a comparison between two vehicles prepared to the same class or spec. The run was organized by Lotus and a local distributor, and the release doesn’t cite an independent record-keeping body.

The dual-motor Emeya 900 produces 675 kW, or 905 hp, and 985 Nm of torque. All-wheel drive and a two-speed transmission take it to 100 km/h in around 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 256 km/h. A 102 kWh battery supports charging at up to 420 kW.
