Renault Made a 7-Seat Kangoo Almost the Size of an Alphard: Only 50 Units

Renault Japan sold a grey Grand Kangoo Couleur limited to just 50 units, priced at ¥4.72 million — roughly $30,000 at current exchange rates. Orders were open from June 18 to 28 and have already closed. Dealer inquiries don’t mean the rare version is still available to order.
The comparison to the Toyota Alphard turns out to be more than a marketing angle. The Grand Kangoo stretches 4,910 mm long and 1,860 mm wide, while the Alphard measures 4,995×1,850 mm. The Renault is just 85 mm shorter and even 10 mm wider, though its height of 1,810 mm falls short of the Toyota’s 1,935–1,945 mm.
Inside are seven individual seats. The second and third rows can slide, fold, and be removed entirely, expanding cargo space to 3,050 liters. Instead of a lift-up tailgate, the rear uses twin barn doors that are easier to open in tight parking spots.
The special edition comes in grey Gris Urbain paint with black bumpers, roof rails, 16-inch all-season tires, and an Extended Grip system that adjusts traction control on slippery surfaces.
Under the hood sits a 1.3-liter turbo petrol engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch 7EDC gearbox. The reported “rush of interest” is based on comments from two unnamed dealers in the Tokyo area. Renault hasn’t disclosed order numbers, and there’s no official confirmation that all 50 cars have been claimed, so calling the batch sold out is premature.
Meanwhile, Renault Japan’s official site has already moved on to the next Couleur version — a blue Bleu Dragee. Its run has grown to 70 units, the price has risen to ¥4.82 million, and orders are being taken from July 16 to 26. Anyone set on the grey car will have to check with dealers for canceled orders or wait for one to show up on the secondhand market.
