BMW Group, Toyota Motor Europe, Bosch and Repsol have launched a pilot project in Spain to run vehicles on fully renewable gasoline. The trial began in early July 2026 and will run for six months. Around 20 BMW, Mini, Toyota and Lexus vehicles are taking part.

The cars are being fuelled with Repsol Nexa 95, made from feedstocks that meet the requirements of the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive. The manufacturer claims a significant cut in lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared with fossil gasoline, though it hasn’t specified an exact percentage.

The main advantage of Nexa 95 is that it works with existing gasoline engines and the regular fuel-station network. Spain was chosen because Repsol already sells the fuel at public filling stations there. No vehicle modifications or dedicated infrastructure were needed for the trial.

Bosch monitors every refuelling through its Digital Fuel Twin system, which cross-checks vehicle, fuel-station and payment card data to confirm the correct fuel was used. The results will be shared with European regulators as evidence for renewable gasoline alongside EVs and hybrids.
