Italian manufacturer Bizzarrini has unveiled the new 5300 Aperta Lusso, based on an open-top version of the classic 5300 GT that never reached production in the 1960s. The car keeps the styling of Giorgetto Giugiaro’s original project, though its structure has been engineered from scratch using modern materials.

The targa body is built from a single large carbon-fiber piece. The removable roof consists of two panels that can be stowed in the trunk. This layout preserves the historic model’s silhouette while giving the body the stiffness it needs.

Under the long hood sits a 5.3-liter V8 making more than 400 hp. The engine is mounted behind the front axle and pairs with a five-speed Tremec TKX manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive and a limited-slip differential. Top speed exceeds 282 km/h (175 mph). Instead of carburetors, the car uses port fuel injection disguised as a classic fuel system.

The initial run of the Bizzarrini 5300 Aperta Lusso is limited to ten cars. Each one will be hand-built to its owner’s individual specification. Pricing has not yet been announced.
