Fiat Topolino: an Abarth version could arrive to court 16- and 17-year-olds

The tiny electric quadricycle already spawned a Sport edition. An Abarth take would push the styling further, though L6 rules keep the performance capped.

Fiat is toying with a sportier, Abarth-badged version of the Topolino. According to Autocar, the idea is less about outright pace and more about pulling younger buyers towards the tiny electric quadricycle.

The Topolino sits in the L6 category, so in Italy and France it can legally be driven by 14-year-olds, while the UK still demands a full licence. The snag: the average Topolino buyer is currently around 45, yet the brand wants to win over 16- and 17-year-olds.

The first move was the Topolino Sport for Italy, with fresh body colours, racing stripes, a black interior and a removable Bluetooth speaker called Monsterlino. An Abarth Topolino could take that further with a more aggressive look, special trim details and Abarth's signature attitude.

A technical revolution isn't on the cards, though. L6 rules cap power and top speed, so an Abarth version most likely won't be any faster than the standard car. Fiat admits younger drivers often go for “louder” microcars with 50cc petrol engines, while the Topolino comes across as gentler and calmer.
