Tesla is clearing out the Model Y: up to €5000 off in France, but timing is the real risk
The rear-drive Model Y now gets a €5000 bonus in France, while Spain runs a separate Tesla Bonus on the Model 3. For buyers the real risk isn't the tech — it's how fast Tesla's discounts move.
Tesla has shown once again why buying an EV from this brand takes not just money, but the right moment. In France, the rear-wheel-drive Model Y now carries a €5000 bonus, even though the official configurator price hasn't changed. For the customer it's almost the same price cut — just without any public revision of the list price.
As 32CARS found while monitoring the market, the discount on the base Model Y in France used to be €4000; now it has been raised by €1000. The Model Y Long Range and Model 3, meanwhile, lost part of their advantage: their bonuses were trimmed from €4000 to €3000. The move shows that Tesla is deliberately steering demand toward the cheapest version of the crossover.
Spain follows a different script for now: the Tesla Bonus applies to the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 and delivers €3395 in savings. After subsidies and local incentives, the French Model Y is listed at €37,401, while the same version in Spain costs €40,760 under local market conditions. The gap is already tangible for a private buyer, especially against rivals such as the Kia EV3, Renault Scenic E-Tech, Hyundai Kona Electric or Volkswagen ID.4, where price, range and financing terms often matter more than the badge.
The main risk for the buyer isn't the technology but the timing. Tesla changes its promotions faster than traditional brands, so a car bought today could be several thousand euros dearer or cheaper a week later. On the used market these swings sting too: sharp bonuses weigh on the residual value of nearly new cars.
For the Model Y right now, the main rival isn't a specific model — it's the calendar of the purchase.
