DS No3: the French brand may abandon the SUV silhouette and return to a classic hatchback
DS is readying a new entry-level model to replace the current DS 3. The successor could ditch the crossover look and go back to a proper city hatchback shape.
DS is preparing a new entry-level model to replace the current DS 3. The upcoming DS No3 could be revealed as early as this year, though final technical specifications have not been published yet.
The main intrigue is the body format. Today’s DS 3 is sold as a compact SUV, but European sources have previously reported that the successor may abandon the crossover silhouette and return to a more classic city hatchback shape. Such a move would bring the model closer to the first DS 3 — a small, stylish supermini rather than a crossover.
The powertrain lineup is expected to be electrified. Regional DS websites already list the current range with electric and hybrid versions of the DS 3, No4, No7 and No8. It follows that the new No3 will get at least an electric version, and possibly hybrid options for buyers not yet ready for a full EV switch.
For DS, this model is a key move. The brand needs a more visible entry-level car capable of competing with the Mini, Renault 5, Audi A1 and other premium city models.
