Fiat Multiplina: electric four-seater channels the 600 Multipla for a 2028 debut

Fiat is preparing a new urban EV under the working name Multiplina, inspired by the 1956 600 Multipla. An L7e quadricycle for four, due in 2028.

Fiat is preparing an unusual electric city car that aims to revive the Multipla idea in a new format. According to Motor1 Italia, the company has shown journalists the first images of the project under the working name Multiplina. There is no official announcement yet, but development is already under way.

The main reference is not the controversially styled Fiat Multipla of 1998, but the earlier Fiat 600 Multipla, built from 1956 to 1967. That car is considered one of the first examples of a compact people-mover. In the teaser image, the silhouette of the new model appeared next to the words “600 Multipla” — a direct nod to the historical source of inspiration.

The new Multiplina is meant to be more practical than the Fiat Topolino. The project is designed for four occupants and will most likely fall into the heavy quadricycle L7e category. That sets it apart from the Topolino, which is an L6e: power is capped at 6 kW and top speed at 45 km/h. The L7e class allows for noticeably more power and figures better suited to carrying four people. According to international reports, the newcomer will use a reworked version of the Topolino and Tris commercial vehicle platform, with extended range and a larger battery.

The Multiplina is expected to make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026, with the commercial launch following in 2028.
