Cupra Tavascan Essential: the electric SUV gets cheaper, but loses some battery

Cupra has made the electric Tavascan more affordable for European buyers. According to Dutch media, the updated lineup now includes its first version priced below €40,000: the entry-level Tavascan Essential costs €39,990.

The lower entry price is explained by new hardware. Instead of the previous base model with a 77 kWh battery, Cupra is offering a variant with a 58 kWh pack and a rear motor rated at 140 kW (190 hp). WLTP range sits at around 440 km. The more powerful versions with the 77 kWh battery remain in the range.

Cupra’s official media site previously confirmed that the updated Tavascan will gain not only a new entry powertrain, but also a reworked interior: a redesigned infotainment interface, additional comfort options and a larger digital instrument cluster. Production of the updated version should begin in the coming weeks, with first customer cars expected after the summer break.

32CARS previously reported that Volkswagen Group has launched serial production of a new drive unit for compact electric cars.
