Chevrolet is sending the Corvette ZR1X into one of the toughest tests a production car can face. The 1,250 hp hybrid supercar will line up at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with one goal: set a new production-car record. The target — beat 9 minutes 53 seconds.

At the wheel of the Corvette ZR1X will be JR Hildebrand. He is set to climb the roughly 20-kilometer (12.42-mile) course with its 156 corners and 1,440-meter elevation gain. The Pikes Peak race itself runs on June 21, 2026, and is regarded as one of America’s most famous hill climbs.

The ZR1X will compete in the hybrid production class. According to Carscoops, the car will retain its stock exhaust system and the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires from the ZTK Performance Package, with only minor changes needed to meet racing regulations. That detail matters: the car is genuinely close to showroom spec, not purpose-built for the event.

Technically, the Corvette ZR1X pairs a 5.5-liter V8 with a front electric motor. The setup delivers all-wheel drive, a combined 1,250 hp and a claimed 0–60 mph time of 1.89 seconds with the ZTK package. Chevrolet calls the ZR1X the most advanced Corvette to date, with a starting price from $209,700.
