Mini Cooper One: petrol hatch gets a cheaper 122 hp entry version in Europe
Mini Cooper One brings back the petrol three-cylinder in a cheaper 122 hp tune, undercutting the 156 hp Cooper C by 2000 euros at the entry point.
Mini Cooper with a petrol engine now has a more affordable entry version. In Europe, the lineup welcomes the Mini Cooper One — a variant for buyers who care more about the price than about maximum performance. Previously, the petrol Cooper started with the Cooper C in 156 hp guise, priced from 36,490 euros.
The new Cooper One uses the familiar 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. Its output is 122 hp and 230 Nm. The gearbox is the automatic Steptronic. This Mini hits 100 km/h in 9.3 seconds, while the 156 hp Cooper C does it in 7.7 seconds. The gap is noticeable, but for a city car it isn’t always a dealbreaker.
The key argument for the One is its price. The three-door Mini Cooper One in Essential trim starts at 34,490 euros, which is 2000 euros less than the previous base Cooper C. The Classic trim is priced at 36,290 euros. The five-door Cooper One costs more: from 35,990 euros in Essential and 37,971 euros in Classic.
There is one catch: the Mini Cooper Cabrio won’t be offered in One trim. Another important point: the petrol Cooper looks similar to the electric Mini, but under the skin they are not the same car. The combustion version is built on the updated UKL architecture and uses a different platform from the electric Mini, which was developed jointly with Great Wall.
