Honda Ridgeline goes on hiatus until 2028: new design and a fresh V6 on the way

Honda is preparing a major update for the Ridgeline. The pickup will get noticeably revised styling and an updated powertrain, while production of the current version goes on hiatus. This is not an imminent debut of a new generation — it’s preparation for the truck’s return in 2028.

According to Automotive News, Ridgeline output will be halted in the fourth quarter of 2026 for roughly 18 months. The reason: the truck needs to be brought in line with upcoming emissions rules. The current Ridgeline uses an older SOHC V6 (one camshaft per cylinder head), while the Pilot and Passport already run on a more modern DOHC V6 with two camshafts.

The return is expected in the second half of 2028. The refreshed pickup will get a revised exterior, new components and a reworked V6. Automotive News flags an important nuance: this will likely be a deep refresh rather than a fully new generation. The next true generation, built on a new hybrid architecture, is expected in the early 2030s.

Some outlets are writing about a possible new hybrid V6 for the 2028 Ridgeline. A bit of caution is in order here: some sources point specifically to a new or reworked V6 tailored to emissions standards, while the hybrid architecture is tied to the next generation further down the road. So it’s more accurate to say Honda is preparing an updated powertrain, with the hybrid option still in the realm of reports and forecasts.
