Dreame eyes Australia for its rocket-boosted electric supercar

The vacuum cleaner brand is preparing an Australian launch by 2027, with a long-term plan that includes a rocket-assisted electric supercar concept.

Dreame, best known for vacuum cleaners and home electronics, is getting serious about an automotive launch in Australia. The company is planning a market entry by 2027, and its long-term roadmap even includes an electric supercar fitted with rocket boosters.

The headline car in the lineup is the Nebula Next 01 Jet Edition, unveiled at the Dreame Next conference in San Francisco. It’s an electric concept fitted with a pair of solid-fuel rocket boosters that, according to the manufacturer, fire the car from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 0.9 seconds. It sounds like a showroom stunt, but Dreame’s head of automotive in Australia, James Moore, told Drive that the brand would like to bring the entire Nebula range to Australia and New Zealand if the models reach production.

That range includes the Nebula Next 01 supercar, the Nebula Next SUV and potentially the Jet Edition itself. The exotica won’t arrive straight away, though. Dreame first has to prove it can sell mainstream cars rather than just turn heads with concepts. The company is eyeing the SUV segment and even pickups, and it has no intention of being a budget brand: the positioning is aimed squarely at the mid- and upper-price tiers.

Prices and specifications of the production models haven’t been revealed yet — the first details on the Australian cars are expected later this year. The risk for Dreame is obvious: buyers will remember the rocket concept, but trust in a new car brand isn’t built on acceleration figures. It’s built on service, warranty and actual deliveries.
