Lexus GX and UX recalled in Australia: software glitch may hide critical warnings

Lexus Australia recalls 2,593 GX550, UX300h and UX300e vehicles over a software glitch that may hide critical warning indicators on the digital instrument cluster.

Lexus Australia is recalling its GX and UX crossovers over a software glitch in the digital instrument cluster. The campaign covers the petrol-powered GX550, the hybrid UX300h and the electric UX300e. In total, 2,593 vehicles built in 2024 and 2025 are affected.

The cause is a software error in the digital instrument cluster. At engine startup, some indicators may fail to render on the screen. In that case the driver risks missing the oil pressure indicator, coolant temperature, traction battery state of charge and other warning messages.

According to the Lexus recall notice, the absence of critical information on the instrument cluster increases the risk of a crash causing injury or death to occupants and other road users. That said, this is not a mechanical defect: the issue is purely with the display and can be resolved through software.

The fix will arrive as two separate over-the-air updates that together take around 60–90 minutes. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified via a pop-up on the infotainment screen. The alternative is a visit to an authorised Lexus dealer, although in that case the car will need to stay at the service centre for a longer period.
