BMW is preparing a summer update package for its sporty and electric models. The main changes include a Black Edition for the British-market M340i and M440i, as well as the S58 engine being updated to meet Euro 7 standards without any power loss.

The Black Edition will be available for the BMW M340i xDrive, M340i xDrive Touring, and M440i xDrive Gran Coupe. There's no performance boost—this is a visual package for the current 3 Series and 4 Series, which are nearing the end of their lifecycle. The package includes the M Sport Pro pack, red brake calipers, darkened 19-inch M wheels with all-season tires, and new M badges with more black accents. The M440i Gran Coupe gets an additional M badge on the grille.

Inside, carbon fiber trim, a leather M steering wheel with carbon fiber accents, and new door panel details are added. For the regular 4 Series Coupe, Gran Coupe, and Convertible, black 19-inch Jet Black wheels will be available as a standalone option.

More importantly, what’s under the hood is evolving. The six-cylinder S58, familiar from the BMW M3, M4, and M2, will comply with Euro 7. From July, the updated engine goes into the M3 and M4, and from August into the M2. Power remains unchanged, but the hardware gets more complex: it introduces M Ignite technology with pre-chamber ignition, borrowed from motorsport. BMW expects lower fuel consumption at high revs and during spirited driving.

At the same time, BMW is refreshing the electric iX3. The crossover gets nine new no-cost Individual paint colors: Purple Silk, Malachite Green, Voodoo Blue, Urban Green, Java Green II, Twilight Purple, Sepang Bronze, Orinoco, and Grigio Telesto. The Innovation package adds heated rear seats.

BMW isn't hyping this update with bold promises. But the message is clear: the gasoline M models are trying to preserve their excitement under tightening emissions rules, and the iX3 aims to stop looking like just another gray electric crossover.
