Opel Expands Electric Rally Program with Mokka GSE
Opel is advancing electric motorsport with the ADAC Opel GSE Rally Cup and entry into Formula E from 2027. The Mokka GSE Rally, a 281 hp EV, leads the 2026 cup season.
Opel is pushing further into electric motorsport. Following its announced entry into Formula E from 2027, the German brand is ramping up its rally program through the ADAC Opel GSE Rally Cup — the world's first all-electric rally one-make cup, as Motor1 reports.
For Opel, this series is about more than just sport. The company views it as a technology testbed for future GSE road models and a training ground for young drivers. The 2026 season will see an Italian crew: driver Valentino Ledda and co-driver Claudio Mele. The team will be backed by former rally driver Manfred Stohl, who competed internationally from 1991 to 2012.
The program’s flagship is the Opel Mokka GSE Rally. This electric SUV is closely linked to the road-going Mokka GSE and is powered by a 281 hp and 345 Nm drivetrain. The differences are largely cosmetic and interior-related: the rally version receives a special livery and a cabin adapted to competition regulations.
The 2026 ADAC Opel GSE Rally Cup season kicks off on May 29-30 at Rally ELE in Eindhoven, Netherlands, and concludes on November 28-29 at a rally in Spa, Belgium. Earlier, 32CARS reported that Opel had released official images of the new Corsa GSE.
