Toyota Boshoku didn't just bring fancy materials to the Human and Automotive Technology Expo 2026. It showcased technologies that are already reshaping the car cabin. The highlights: a recyclable seat called TBlocks and a door trim with surface illumination.

TBlocks is a seat with a new modular design. The backrest, cushion, and side bolsters are split into separate components that are easier to disassemble at the end of their life. This approach boosts recyclability and cuts down on urethane usage, along with the CO2 emissions from production. But Toyota Boshoku isn't just chasing green credentials: the seat's shape is said to distribute body pressure more evenly and provide better lateral support during cornering.

Here's the key point: TBlocks isn't just a concept anymore. It first appeared in production on the new Lexus ES sold overseas. That same model also debuted another Toyota Boshoku innovation: door trim with soft surface illumination. Using specific materials and light-diffusion technology, it can display different animations and alter the cabin's mood. The system was developed in collaboration with Hayashi Telempu and Kojima Press Industry.

Another section of the expo is I.C.30, short for Integrated Cabin 2030. It represents Toyota Boshoku's vision for the cabin of the next decade: seats that alert occupants to surrounding conditions through sound and vibration, plus a content system that tailors visuals and audio to the driving environment.

To a buyer, these innovations might seem like mere details. Yet they add up to a new kind of interior: less single-use materials, more ambient light, clever cues, and personalization. The car of the future, it appears, won't just be quieter to drive—it will also communicate with its occupants in a noticeably gentler way.
