Range Rover Electric: Inside the Luxury SUV's First EV
Jaguar Land Rover unveils the Range Rover Electric, its first all-electric luxury SUV. The EV will be shown privately in summer 2026, maintaining the iconic design and driving experience. Discover what's known so far.
Jaguar Land Rover is preparing the most cautious but important electric launch in Range Rover history. The brand's first fully electric SUV will be shown to select customers at private events in summer 2026, with orders expected to open later that year. The pre-production vehicle has already appeared in public at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, with additional displays planned in Sardinia and during Wimbledon.
The format is intentional: Range Rover Electric is being presented first not to the general public, but to those who should experience it as a luxury object, not just another electric crossover. The brand is keen not to alienate existing buyers accustomed to petrol, diesel, and hybrid versions.
Visually, the EV barely disrupts the familiar Range Rover identity. The silhouette remains classic, and distinguishing the EV requires noticing the smoother front end, closed grille, and unique center wheel caps. This isn't a style revolution but a careful translation of a recognizable form onto an electric platform.
Technical details remain under wraps. JLR hasn't disclosed battery capacity, range, power, drivetrain configuration, or pricing. What is known is that the Range Rover Electric won't become a separate sub-brand and will sit alongside existing petrol, diesel, and hybrid models.
The vehicle will be built in the UK with support from Tata Motors. For Range Rover, this isn't just a new variant—it's a test of whether a large luxury EV can retain that essential Range Rover character: high driving position, silence, status, and the sense that the car is equally at home at a high-end hotel or on a rough road.
The electric Range Rover, it seems, isn't trying to challenge the market with futuristic design. Its mission is harder: to convince buyers that even without an internal combustion engine, this is still a true Range Rover.
