Mercedes-Benz is preparing to launch its urban driving assistant, MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO, in Germany. The first vehicles equipped with the new feature are expected to appear in select cities by the end of 2026, with a nationwide rollout planned for early 2027.

The system will initially launch in Stuttgart and Munich. Developed in partnership with Nvidia, it has been available in China since late 2025 and is scheduled to enter the US market later this year. Mercedes now aims to bring the technology to Europe, where Tesla and BMW are also competing for urban assistant dominance.

MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO is designed for point-to-point driving under driver supervision. It can handle traffic lights, lane changes, and dense city traffic. This is more complex than a highway assistant: urban environments have more pedestrians, cyclists, sudden maneuvers, and unpredictable situations.

Mercedes is working with Germany's Ministry of Transport and road regulator KBA to bring the system to market quickly while meeting safety requirements. Chief Technology Officer Jörg Burzer stated that the brand's goal is to remain a leader in assisted and automated driving.

For Mercedes, this is more than just another option in the price list. The urban autopilot becomes a showcase of technology: premium car buyers increasingly expect not only quiet cabins, leather, and power, but also a vehicle that handles some of the tedious city driving. For now, however, the keyword remains control: the driver stays responsible, even if the electronics can already drive almost like an independent road user.
