Next-Generation Toyota Yaris to Offer Multiple Powertrains Including Electric

The next-generation Toyota Yaris could land around 2027 or 2028, according to a German source, and it's expected to offer a wider variety of powertrains. Think petrol, hybrid, and fully electric versions.

Andrea Carlucci, Toyota's European manager, told Auto Express that while the company is moving toward electrification, it can't avoid launching a fully electric Yaris. He didn't commit to a specific timing and stressed that Toyota will keep a multi-energy strategy for different customers and markets.

That means the new Yaris needs a more flexible platform—one that can handle internal combustion engines, hybrid setups, and a battery-electric drivetrain. The electric version is expected to have a range of around 400 km. Rivals in that space include the Renault 5, Volkswagen ID. Polo, and Cupra Raval.

The hybrid Yaris will remain a key player. The current model consumes just 3.8 L/100 km on the WLTP cycle, and the successor is expected to match or improve on that. Design-wise, sources suggest a sharper look: more pronounced headlights, short overhangs, a lower air intake, plus new colors and wheel options.
