Alfa Romeo Teases Special Model Co-Developed with Maserati
Alfa Romeo and Maserati co-develop a limited-edition model under Bottega Fuoriserie—likely a modern Spider Duetto. Plus, a new compact crossover and gas-powered Giulia/Stelvio replacements are in the works.
Alfa Romeo has teased a new special model co-developed with Maserati. It will fall under the Bottega Fuoriserie program, a division focused on limited-run vehicles for ultra-wealthy customers.
Stellantis envisions these vehicles to be akin to the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale and Maserati MCXtrema in spirit: pure emotion, Italian craftsmanship, and a price tag that will likely exceed a million dollars. While precise details remain under wraps, Italian rumors tie the project to a modern Spider Duetto built on the Maserati MC20 Cielo platform. If this pans out, Alfa Romeo would gain more than a halo car; it would be an open-top sports car with a strong historical nod.
Meanwhile, Alfa Romeo is working on a new compact crossover. It won't replace the Tonale; instead, it will complement it. This move is more pragmatic: Stellantis needs volume, and crossovers are the quickest route to healthier financials.
The situation with the next-generation Giulia and Stelvio is more complex. Their replacements have been postponed. Originally slated as EVs, Alfa Romeo has scrapped the plan to go all-electric by 2027. The upcoming models are now being redesigned for gasoline power, and that engineering effort takes time.
For fans, it's a mixed bag. A limited-edition special model is exciting, but the mainstream lineup is getting old. Alfa Romeo is once again banking on emotion, but it has to keep buyers interested until those cars hit the showroom floor.
