Ford Puma Surpasses 1 Million Production with Electric Gen-E
Ford Puma production hits 1 million units. The electric Puma Gen-E marks the milestone, heading to a UK buyer. Learn about range, pricing, and how it replaced the Fiesta and EcoSport.
Ford Puma has crossed the 1 million production milestone. The anniversary car was built at Ford Otosan's Craiova plant in Romania, where the second-generation Puma has been rolling off the line since October 2019.
It's fitting that the millionth car wasn't a gas-powered crossover but a bright yellow electric Puma Gen-E. The vehicle is destined for a customer from the UK, who attended the assembly of her own car. For Ford, this is a picture-perfect moment: a model that replaced both the EcoSport and the Fiesta in Europe has now become one of the brand's key products.
Two special guests joined the factory celebration: the very first Puma built in Craiova and the Puma Rally1 rally car. The latter highlighted the model's sporting side—these cars have won WRC rounds, including the 2022 Monte Carlo Rally and last year's Sweden and Chile rallies.
The updated Puma Gen-E offers up to 471 km of WLTP range. It uses a 400-volt architecture and SK On battery cells. DC fast charging supports up to 100 kW, and a 10 to 80 percent charge takes about 23 minutes. In Romania, prices for the Gen-E start at €24,500, which is about $28,100 or RUB 2.25 million.
For Ford, the millionth Puma is more than just a production milestone. It proves that the small crossover has successfully replaced two discontinued vehicle types: the compact hatchback and the affordable SUV.
