Volvo may retain wagons in its future lineup, even as SUVs dominate. Right now, the brand offers just one wagon: the V60. The larger V90 was discontinued from order books at the end of 2025. The V60 has been around since 2018, though it recently got a technical refresh.

In an interview with Motor1, Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson stated that the market has grown overly reliant on SUVs. He argued that automakers need lower vehicles, particularly for aerodynamic efficiency and EV range. A lower body and reduced drag mean better energy efficiency.

Samuelsson also said he can't see Volvo being a crossover-only brand in five years. That's particularly clear in the US, where neither the ES90 liftback nor the EM90 minivan is available. As a result, Volvo's US lineup is essentially just SUVs and the V60 wagon.

For buyers, this is a significant signal—but not a guarantee of an upcoming debut. Volvo hasn't announced a new wagon or confirmed a direct V60 replacement. Still, the leadership's stance suggests that lower body styles could stay part of the brand's strategy, particularly in the electric era.
