The Xiaomi YU7 GT isn't even on sale yet, but it's already claimed a notable record. The electric SUV lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 34.931 seconds, beating the Audi RS Q8 Performance's time of 7:36.698.

According to SPEEDME, the record lap was driven by Xiaomi's chief test driver, Ren Zhoucan. He is the first Chinese professional racer to earn an officially certified lap at the Nürburgring. The YU7 GT has outpaced not only the Audi but also the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, which previously recorded a 7:38.925.

The YU7 GT's hardware lives up to its record ambitions. It features two electric motors with a combined output of 738 kW (990 hp), carbon-ceramic brakes, and a chassis tuned by Chinese and European specialists. Top speed is rated at 300 km/h, and range is 705 km under the CLTC cycle.

For Xiaomi, this lap time is about more than just an impressive number. The company aims to prove that its EV can compete not only with Chinese SUVs but also with German performance models, where decades of reputation have been built on more than just power.

The official launch of the YU7 GT in China is set for May 21. Pricing is expected to be around 400,000 yuan, roughly 4.25 million rubles. The standard YU7 is considerably cheaper, starting at 253,500 yuan, about 2.69 million rubles.

The YU7 GT is already on display in 268 Xiaomi showrooms across 82 Chinese cities. For now, it’s a look-only experience from the outside, but after the launch, customers will get access to the interior and test drives. The Nürburgring record works better than any advertising: instead of promises, Xiaomi is showing a stopwatch.
