Chevrolet Captiva Updated in India with New 2.2L Diesel Engine
GM launches updated Chevrolet Captiva in India with a new 2.2L diesel engine producing 187 hp. Pricing starts at ₹1.41 million. Seven-seat SUV with AWD and automatic gearbox.
GM has unveiled an updated Chevrolet Captiva in India, and the headline isn't the styling—it's the new diesel engine. Alongside the existing 2.0-liter unit, there's now a 2.2-liter version borrowed from the Cruze. That engine produces 187 hp and 424 Nm of torque.
The base Captiva 2.0 MT starts at around $19,460 (roughly 1.41 million rupees), while the 2.0 Xtreme version is priced at about $20,230 (1.46 million rupees). At the top of the range, the 2.2 AT AWD goes for $25,540 (1.85 million rupees). All these prices exclude dealer fees and registration costs in Delhi.
The new 2.2-liter diesel is paired exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission. The manual gearbox remains reserved for the 2.0-liter version. The logic is straightforward: opt for the base diesel if you want to save money, or step up to the more powerful SUV with an automatic and all-wheel drive.
Equipment has also been upgraded. The list includes cruise control, climate control for the third row, an electric parking brake, a rain sensor, a sunroof, a cooled glovebox, multiple storage bins, and three 12V power outlets. Inside, you get black leather upholstery, a six-speaker audio system, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and dual-zone climate control. Safety features include six airbags, ABS, and EBD.
This version of the Captiva leans on straightforward selling points: a torquey diesel, an automatic gearbox, all-wheel drive, and seven-seat practicality. It's not the freshest recipe on the market, but these are exactly the kind of cars that buyers choose for their pulling power and no-nonsense family appeal, rather than for novelty.
