BMW ALPINA 7 Series to Return in 2027
BMW confirms ALPINA 7 Series for 2027, reviving the B7 lineage. New luxury tier between BMW and Rolls-Royce, with six-cylinder, V8, and possible EV options.
BMW has officially confirmed the return of ALPINA to its flagship sedan segment. The first model under the new BMW ALPINA brand will arrive in 2027, based on the current 7 Series G70.
This marks an important moment after a long hiatus. The last ALPINA B7 left the scene four years ago, and the lineage of large ALPINA sedans stretches back to 1987, when the B11 3.5 debuted on the BMW 7 Series E32. Now the concept returns in a different role: not as an independent tuner's creation, but as an integral part of BMW's own strategy.
According to BMW, ALPINA is meant to occupy the space between the brand's top models and Rolls-Royce. That means the new ALPINA 7 Series won't simply be a more powerful version of the 'Seven'; it will be a rare, expensive variant with expanded standard equipment, unique trim, and bespoke design details.
A long-wheelbase version isn't in the cards yet. The regular 7 Series already has a 3,215 mm wheelbase, so BMW might not follow the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class route of adding even more length. Unofficial sources suggest the project could carry the internal code G72, while the standard 7 Series is G70 and the armored version is G73.
The name B7 is also uncertain. The reason is that the future ALPINA 7 Series may be offered in several variants, reportedly with six-cylinder and eight-cylinder engines. An all-electric version based on the i7 hasn't been ruled out either.
Don't expect a modest price tag. A standard BMW 740 starts at $101,350 in the US (about 7.41 million rubles), while the xDrive version goes for $104,350 (around 7.63 million rubles). The ALPINA will almost certainly be significantly more expensive. If an electric variant based on the i7 M70 arrives, the bar will be high: in Germany, the i7 M70 starts at €182,400, or roughly $215,000 (15.7 million rubles).
BMW ALPINA isn't stopping with the 7 Series. The next candidate is a new-generation X7, which could get an ALPINA version as early as 2028 and rival the Mercedes-Maybach GLS.
In essence, BMW is turning ALPINA into a separate tier of luxury. Not Rolls-Royce, but no longer just a BMW loaded with options. It's for those who find even the highest-spec 7 Series too common.
