Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard: The Armored Sedan You Can't Buy in the US
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Guard is an armored sedan with a V12, but it's not sold in the US or China. Embargo checks required. Learn more about this exclusive model.
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new S-Class Guard, an armored version of its flagship sedan with a reinforced body and bulletproof glass. But even if you've got the cash, this isn't a car you can just walk into a dealership and order.
Mercedes says outright that the model won't be sold in the US or China, nor to countries or individuals under embargo or sanctions. S-Class Guard representative Sascha Zeinic explained the process, noting that for any such car, the company would have to run embargo and sanctions checks. Only if everything is clear can they proceed with purchase and construction.
Mercedes kept the specifics of these checks under wraps, and 32CARS couldn't get any details. The company hasn't disclosed pricing, production numbers, or how the cars are built. That's partly due to secrecy and partly because each Guard is built to order for a specific client. One buyer might want a discreet, civilian-looking sedan; another requires a full official convoy vehicle with strobes and sirens.
The S-Class Guard is the only version of the facelifted S-Class that still offers a V12. For regular buyers, that engine is already a thing of the past—it's nearly vanished from the standard lineup. But in this armored sedan, the V12 isn't about prestige; it's about having enough grunt to move all that heavy armor.
Mercedes keeps technical details tight-lipped, and for good reason. The less that's known about the armor's construction, vulnerabilities, and equipment, the safer the owner. So the Guard inevitably raises more questions than it answers.
For the mainstream market, this car hardly exists. The S-Class Guard isn't about parking-lot bragging rights; it's for people whose daily routes, job roles, or lifestyles demand protection. And Mercedes now clearly wants to know not just who's buying, but why they need it.
