Audi Australia has issued a recall for the new-generation Audi Q5. The campaign affects 787 units built in 2025. The problem involves a possible manufacturing defect in the seat belt pretensioners for the driver and front passenger.

According to the recall notice, the pretensioners may not deploy correctly. This could create excessive slack in the belt, reducing how well it restrains occupants in a crash. Audi warns that in a collision, this fault could increase the risk of injury, and in a severe accident, the risk of death for the driver or passengers.

For now, owners will have to wait for repair parts. Audi Australia will notify customers when the necessary components become available and then ask them to schedule an appointment with an authorized dealer. Owners can also contact Audi by phone or email using the details in the notice.

This is the first recall for the new Q5 generation in Australia. Earlier in 2025, plug-in hybrid versions of the previous Q5 were recalled over a possible high-voltage battery issue. The new Q5 remains a key model for the brand: last year the smaller Q3 was Audi's best-seller in Australia, but in 2026 the Q5 took the lead in local sales.
