Chery Tiggo 9: Flagship SUV for Malaysia with 2.0T AWD

Chery is preparing to launch the Tiggo 9 in Malaysia. The brand has already opened registrations of interest for the new model, which will become the flagship of the local SUV lineup, slotting above the Tiggo Cross, Tiggo 7 Pro, Tiggo 8, and Tiggo 8 Pro. It was previously expected that the Tiggo 9 would launch with a CSH plug-in hybrid system, but the current registration page points to a 2.0T AWD version. However, a hybrid variant could still arrive later. Chery already sells CSH versions of the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 in Malaysia, and the company has previously confirmed plans for a Tiggo 9 PHEV for this market.
The gasoline-powered Tiggo 9 is expected to use the same 2.0-liter turbo engine as the Tiggo 8 Pro, producing 256 hp and 390 Nm. It is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, but unlike the front-wheel-drive Tiggo 8 Pro, the new flagship gets all-wheel drive with seven driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, Sand, Mud, Snow, and Off-Road. It rides on 20-inch wheels, an inch larger than those on the Tiggo 8 Pro.
In terms of equipment, the Tiggo 9 significantly outpaces its smaller siblings. It features a 15.6-inch central screen with 2.5K resolution and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, a head-up display, a driver's seat with 10-way power adjustment, ventilated front seats with massage, ventilated second-row seats, and a Sony audio system with 14 speakers, including speakers in the front headrests. Safety equipment includes 10 airbags and an ADAS suite with 23 functions.
The dimensions also underscore its flagship status: the Tiggo 9 measures 4,810 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. That's 88 mm longer and 65 mm wider than the Tiggo 8 Pro, with a wheelbase 90 mm longer. However, it is slightly more compact than the larger Jaecoo J8. Pricing has not been announced.
