Lucid’s Cosmos and Earth: Midsize Electric Crossovers for Europe
Lucid launches two new midsize EVs in Europe: Cosmos and Earth. Against Tesla Model Y, they offer efficiency, Level 2++ autonomy, and start under $50k.
Lucid is gearing up for a wider European launch. The company, as reported by Auto Express, intends to introduce two new midsize electric crossovers in Europe: the Cosmos and the Earth. These will take on the Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3, and Mercedes GLC. Still, Lucid has no plans to become a volume brand.
The Cosmos is pitched as a family crossover with a focus on interior space, driving dynamics, and efficiency. The Earth, meanwhile, adopts a more rugged, off-road-oriented appearance and some all-terrain ability. Both models ride on a new platform called Midsize. According to Lucid, this architecture simplifies manufacturing, cuts costs, and allows the brand to step into larger segments while maintaining its hallmark efficiency. The carmaker has also revealed that these midsize models will feature the new Atlas drive unit and will start below $50,000 in the US.
Exact pricing and specs for Europe haven't been revealed yet. What is known is that the new SUVs will feature a more efficient electric motor and smaller battery packs. This is a key consideration for Lucid: since the battery is often the most expensive component in an EV, reducing its capacity while preserving range helps keep costs in check. The midsize models will be assembled at Lucid's new factory in Saudi Arabia, which will supply global markets. Other reports indicate that Cosmos production will start there, with potential expansion later on.
Lucid is also betting on driver assistance technology. Both the Cosmos and Earth will offer Level 2++ autonomous driving capability. The company says moving to Level 3 depends on software updates and regulatory approval rather than a hardware change. As for the UK launch, it hinges on right-hand drive availability. Industry sources indicate Lucid will enter the British market in 2027, starting with the Cosmos.
