The first fully standalone AMG crossover was caught by spy photographers testing in the Alps—and it’s more than just another Mercedes spin-off. The model is built on the new AMG.EA platform, engineered specifically in Affalterbach for electric cars and developed without a sister model bearing the three-pointed star. The intended rivals are substantial: the Lotus Eletre and the upcoming electric Porsche Cayenne.

Despite the heavy camouflage, widened fenders and an aggressive, hunkered stance are already visible. This is set to be the crossover counterpart to the GT XX supersedan—the concept with 1,341 hp, a simulated V8 soundtrack, and “virtual” gear shifts. The SUV will likely adopt the same layout with three Yasa axial motors, but it isn’t expected to arrive before 2027.

AMG is developing a new gasoline V8 in parallel, yet there’s no turning back for this crossover: its architecture is fully electric. Expect around five meters in length and a curb weight positioned between the EQE SUV and EQS SUV, but below that of the electric G-Class. That points to a substantial machine.

The cabin and final design remain under wraps; the prototype wears temporary lighting and a thick layer of camouflage. The brand indicates it will prioritize AMG character over pure EV identity, promising a fresh take on the Panamericana grille and pronounced rear haunches. If that brief holds, the result should stand out as distinctly AMG even as an EV.
