Volkswagen ID. Cross Spotted During Winter Testing: Electric Crossover for 2026
Volkswagen's ID. Cross electric crossover spotted winter testing near Arctic Circle. Expected to start at €28,000, offering up to 208 hp and 52 kWh battery. Launch in autumn 2026.
Volkswagen has taken its new electric crossover, the ID. Cross, out for winter testing. The prototype was spotted near the Arctic Circle, undergoing tests on snowy and icy roads with minimal camouflage.
The ID. Cross will be the crossover version of the upcoming ID. Polo and is built on the MEB+ architecture. European launch is expected in autumn 2026. Preliminary reports suggest the price in Europe could start at around 28,000 euros, making it one of the most affordable electric SUVs in Volkswagen's lineup.
Technically, the ID. Cross is expected to be closely related to the ID. Polo. Front-wheel-drive versions are anticipated with electric motors ranging from 114 to 208 hp. Entry-level models will feature a 37 kWh battery, while higher trims get a 52 kWh unit. The larger battery supports fast charging at up to 105 kW. Volkswagen has also indicated a towing capacity of up to 1,200 kg.
Inside, the crossover is likely to mirror the ID. Polo's key features: a 13-inch multimedia screen, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a two-tier front panel, slim ventilation vents, and ambient lighting. Cargo volume should be 475 liters, expanding to 1,340 liters with the rear seats folded. Additional storage includes a small front compartment of 22 liters.
