Dreame's Star Motor Sedan: Supercar-Inspired Budget Car
Dreame's Star Motor budget sedan features Bugatti, Ferrari, and Rolls-Royce-inspired design with rear-hinged doors and no B-pillar. Debuts at Chengdu Auto Show.
Dreame, a Chinese brand best known for vacuum cleaners, is making an unexpected and aggressive move into the automotive sector. Its latest unveil is a budget sedan under the Star Motor badge, with styling that unmistakably channels the Bugatti Chiron, Ferrari Purosangue, and even a hint of Rolls-Royce.
Star Motor is one of three automotive sub-brands Dreame has launched, sitting alongside Nebula Next and Kosmera. The sedan originally debuted in February, together with the T08 and T08L SUVs—which look like the Dongfeng M817 and M917—and the lavish D09, clearly inspired by the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Now, the spotlight shifts to a lower, more dramatic model.
Its front end uses a massive grille, broad air intakes, and slender LED headlights. The overall shape mixes hypercar and crossover cues: the nose has a Bugatti-like presence, while the high-riding, stretched body echoes the Ferrari Purosangue.
The most eye-catching side detail is the rear-hinged back doors, a feature long associated with Rolls-Royce. But Dreame pushes it further—there is no B-pillar. When both doors are open, you get one vast, uninterrupted opening, just like on some extravagant show cars. Rumors indicate Genesis is exploring a similar approach for the GV90.
Dreame is generating buzz by leaning on recognizable design themes, though such blatant mimicry could become a liability, particularly in markets outside China. For prospective buyers, the look is certainly dramatic, but the real story will depend on what lies beneath: the platform, motors, battery, and final price.
The company says it will present a near-production version at the Chengdu Auto Show in September. That’s where it’ll become clear whether this is merely a flashy concept built for social media hype, or a serious bid to create a genuinely affordable fastback with an unconventional door layout.
