Shenlong Exports Updated Citroen C5 X and Peugeot 5008

Shenlong exports updated Citroen C5 X and Peugeot 5008, leveraging China's supply chain for competitive pricing and global expansion under Stellantis.

The joint venture Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroen (Shenlong) is stepping up global expansion with four export-focused models: updated versions of the Citroen C5 X and Peugeot 5008 tailored for international buyers.

In its international spec, the Citroen C5 X keeps the liftback body style, generous ground clearance, and the brand’s PHC suspension, which shines on rough pavement. Power comes from a proven 1.6-litre turbo engine making 129 kW, mated to an automatic gearbox. The car arrives with a simpler trim and an aggressive price—a combination that should appeal strongly to developing markets.

Versatility is the name of the game for the Peugeot 5008. This seven-seat crossover boasts a flexible cabin with up to 2,040 litres of cargo space and a Grip Control system that adapts to different surfaces. It’s powered by a 1.8-litre turbo engine paired with an eight-speed automatic, and the safety kit is comprehensive: a surround-view camera and a suite of electronic aids are part of the package.

The overarching goal is straightforward: deliver a competitively priced product without compromising the quality Stellantis demands. Production is centred in China, where an efficient supply chain is already in place.

The ‘China for the world’ strategy is fast becoming the industry’s new normal. Chinese plants can now do more than just satisfy local demand—they are shaping global supply, which only heats up international competition.
